Case Study: Habitation Léon-Deschamps
Habitation Léon-Deschamps in Sherbrooke, Quebec, is Canada's largest Phius design-certified building. To meet the standard regulatory ventilation requirements, in addition to the stringent requirements of Phius and Novoclimat, the project team implemented a balanced ventilation strategy using 137 Fantech HERO 150H-EC HRVs. By leveraging the WUFI modeling software's ability to evaluate efficiency at actual operating airflow rates, the HERO units achieved the heat recovery performance needed to support certification goals. Combined with an airtight envelope, high-performance windows, efficient heat pumps, and sustainable construction practices, the project delivers healthy, affordable housing with significantly reduced energy consumption.
HERO HRVs helped this building achieve Phius certification by delivering high sensible recovery efficiency and low energy consumption, supporting the ventilation strategy for the largest Phius design-certified building in Canada.
Because the project's apartments required only 55 CFM of continuous outdoor air, the HRVs operated at lower airflow rates where heat recovery performance was higher, resulting in improved modeled SRE values and reduced heating demand.
